Diffused Aeration System
Aeration is the heart of any Wastewater treatment plant. Conventional aeration methods consume a lot of power besides frequent maintenance hassles. The limited oxygen transfer always led to addition of tanks, addition of aerators and/or replacement with higher hp rating ones. In Diffused Aeration System, a number of membrane diffusers are installed at the bottom of the tank covering the maximum possible area. Air from twin lobe compressor(s) is supplied to the diffusers, generating a multitude of fine bubbles (about 1 to 1.5 mm in diameter). While slowly moving upward towards the surface of water, as the fine bubbles have more contact area with water, transfer maximum oxygen contained in them. The higher oxygen transfer leads to healthy growth of microorganisms to digest the organic matter in the wastewater. In addition, it enhances in evaporation of volatile substances and nitrification.

Advantages of Diffused aeration :
  1. Standard Oxygen Transfer Efficiency (SOTE) ranges from 18 to 35% depending on the depth of aeration tank (varies from 5.25 to 7% per metre water depth)
  2. Oxygen transfer per kWh would be 2.5 kg and can go as high as 7 kg.
  3. DO will be uniform throughout the tank.
  4. As the particles are always in suspension, no sludge buildup at the bottom of the tank.
  5. Almost 1.5 to 2 times the volume of effluent can be treated in the same aeration tank as that of the one with mechanical aerators.
  6. Very low or No maintenance as no rotating components.
  7. As the power consumption reduces by about 30 to 60%, even if existing aerators are replaced by this system, it will pay back in 8 to 15 months.
